thumb «The New York Times» er en amerikansk avis utgitt i New York og distribuert over hele USA og i mange andre land. Den ble grunnlagt i 18. september 1851 av Henry Jarvis Raymond og George Jones. Raymond var også en av grunnleggerne av nyhetsbyrået Associated Press i 1856. Avisens opplag er 1.132.000 på ukedager og 1.682.100 på søndager (2003). «The New York Times» har sitt hovedkontor i New York. Avisen har 16 lokalkontorer i New York–regionen, 11 nasjonale kontorer og 26 internasjonale kontorer. Adolph Ochs kjøpte «The New York Times» i 1896 og under hands lederskap fikk avisen internasjonal rekkevidde, utbredelse og omdømme. Etter at hovedkontoret ble flyttet til et nytt høyhus på New Yorks 42. gate ble området omdøpt til Times Square i 1904. Avisen eies idag av mediekonsernet The New York Times Company, hvor etterkommere av Ochs fortsatt har en dominerende rolle.
